My name is Yuli. I am a security software engineer.
For most of my career, I was building tools for security companies.
I was also doing:
I worked for huge security vendors like Checkpoint, RSA Security, and a few small security companies.
2 years ago I bumped into privacy. It was a story with a challenge.
I was building a tool to enable access from one tenant account at Microsoft Azure Cloud to another tenant from a different company. In fact, I found a way to do it using Azure API and it worked great until I decided to revoke the access.
Guess what? I got an error. Basically, I was not able to terminate a trust between 2 tenant accounts in the Microsoft Azure Cloud.
I contacted the Microsoft security team immediately to report the bug.
In response, I got a standard email saying that they do not consider this to be an important problem and advised me to open a regular bug report.
It can take years to fix regular bugs, so, I challenged myself to find a better solution.
At that time, I was interested in GDPR and privacy. One of the topics I learned about was customer consent.
I thought to myself that giving permission from one tenant to the second tenant is basically giving consent to use my customer’s data to the 3rd party.
According to GDPR, it should be easy to give and easy to withdraw customer consent.
My next step was to contact Microsoft’s official Data Privacy Officer (DPO) and report this problem. Microsoft DPO forwarded my bug report back to the security team. It took them 2 months to fix this bug.
That experience gave me an understanding that privacy compliance is a challenging topic even for the biggest companies. It takes time to dive into legal issues and transfer them to an actionable plan.
The problem I reported saved millions of euros on GDPR fines for Microsoft.
The tool I built back then now works at the backend of our service called Privacybunker.
Privacybunker is an automated service that detects and fixes GDPR violations on any website.
With Privacybunker you can enjoy a seamless privacy compliance solution that takes just half an hour to set up.
My mission as a software developer and cloud architect is to create software with privacy built in.
In a fast-paced digital environment, you can not wait a month to solve a simple problem since the competition is too tough. That is why I decided to spend 2-3 hours weekly to share my experience with other startup founders like me.
The success of Privacybunker allows me to spend more time with startup entrepreneurs. So, you are welcome to schedule a call with me on Tuesday. It is free of charge and it will save you valuable time and resources.
Looking forward to chatting with you personally.
